George R. Malone Jr., 54, a resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa following an extended illness.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born March 28, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of George R. & Barbara Jean (Bundy) Malone Sr. and was a graduate of Bettendorf High School. On September 26, 1976, he was united in marriage to Michele R. Proesch in Silvis, Illinois.
George was a foreman with the City of Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department. He had been with the department for 35 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1973.
Among the activities George liked were fishing, hunting and and enjoying the out-of-doors.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Paul (Wendy) Malone, Mark Malone and Todd Malone, all of Pleasant Valley; his grandchildren, Ashley & Allison; his parents, George & Barb Malone of Bettendorf; his sisters, Patti (Frank) Birch of Tucson, Arizona, Ruth (Bill) Young of Waterloo, Iowa and Cindy (Mike) Norman in Missouri; his brother, Tom Malone of Bettendorf; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, Jim Kaufmann and Merle Weirup.
George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hailey Elizabeth Malone.
