Gladys E. McCully, 85, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Silverado Senior Living Center in Houston, Texas.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rotary Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART Fund, www.cartfund.org) or the American Heart Association (www.donatenow.heart.org).

Gladys was born October 5, 1930 in Garfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Rudolph & Helen (Kast) Erismann.  She was united in marriage to Doyle W. McCully on October 17, 1953 in Passaic, New Jersey.  He preceded her in death on February 12, 2014.

Gladys enjoyed a long family life as wife, mother and homemaker supporting her husband and family. After growing up in New Jersey, meeting her future husband Doyle at the USO club and still marrying him, she moved about the country from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) to West Virginia, to Virginia to their long time residence in Bettendorf as her husband’s career with the US Army Corps of Engineers progressed. A consummate hostess, she enjoyed supporting community betterment through the local activities of Rotary International and the National Republican Party.  As a sign of her love, dedication and never ending support, Gladys was awarded the Department of the Army, Commanders Award for Public Service upon her husband’s retirement in 1998. She enjoyed the beaches of Sarasota Florida with family as often as possible. Her memberships included P.E.O., Questers and First Baptist Church in Bettendorf.

Those left to honor Gladys’ memory include her children, Beverly (Mark) Magrane of Redmond, Washington and Kenneth (Kimberly) McCully of Cypress, Texas; and her grandchildren, Kiera Magrane and Ryan Magrane.
