Glenn A. Meyer, 81, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at his home.
Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Genesis V.N.A. Hospice.
Mr. Meyer was born February 12, 1922 in Denison, Iowa the son of Albert & Anna (Weiss) Meyer and grew up on the family farm at Buck Grove, Iowa. He married Helen M. Anofsky on May 24, 1949 in Boston, Massachusetts.
In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Frederick Funston. In 1948, he re-enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1950.
Glenn was employed as an equipment repair foreman at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1979 after 28 years of civil service. In earlier years he worked for the Watertown Arsenal in Watertown, Massachusetts.
He always felt proud of his military service and his federal employment. His family, especially his beloved grandchildren, were the joy of his life.
Those left to honor his memory are his beloved wife, Helen; his daughter & special son-in-law, Donna & Leslie Lauritsen of Bettendorf; his son, Robert Meyer of Houston, Texas; his dearly loved grandchildren, Emily Lauritsen of Bettendorf & Michael Lauritsen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his sisters, Phyllis Weaver, Bertha Maak & Esther Meyer all of Denison, Iowa; his brother & sister-in-law, Kenneth & Marge Meyer of Denison, Iowa; and many special nieces & nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Holm and his brother, Wesley Meyer.
