Glennell Carey

Glennell Carey, 86, of Davenport went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Country Manor Memory Care, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hope Church, Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Hope Church.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Glenn was born October 7, 1935 in Arab, Alabama, to George and Georgia (Hyde) Carey.  While enrolled in college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country while stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1961.  On November 9, 1963, he was united in marriage to Thelma L. Harvey in Bettendorf.  Glenn worked as a system analyst at the Rock Island Arsenal until his retirement in 1993.  He was a charter member of Hope Church, where he served as an usher and trustee for many years.  In addition to being an avid gardener, Glenn was a baseball enthusiast and played in the church softball leagues until age 55.  He loved spending time skipping rocks with his grandsons and gospel sing-alongs with his family.

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Brenda (Mike) Goellnitz of Davenport, Kevin Carey of Davenport; siblings, Olis Carey of Guntersville, Alabama, Hiaweeze Graves of Joppa, Alabama, Kenneth Carey of Blountsville, Alabama, Gene Carey of Arab, Alabama; three grandsons, Bryce (Ashlynne), Brenden, and Bryton Goellnitz, all of Davenport; great-granddaughter, Magnolia of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; and siblings, Elzie Dover, Sinewy Carey, Marie Norman, and George Herbert Carey.
