Gordon L. “Gordy” Pelo, 93, a longtime resident of LeClaire, Iowa, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Gordon was born June 15, 1922 in Sprague, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur & Anna (Wiland) Pelo.  He moved to Bettendorf at an early age.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radio operator on PBM mariner submarine patrols.  Following the war, he returned to LeClaire where he owned and operated Pelo’s Sundries for over fifty years.

Gordon was devoted to the betterment of his community and served with the LeClaire Civic Club, the school board, and he had volunteered for many years on the LeClaire Volunteer Fire Department.  Gordon was also a member of the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post #347.

Gordon was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Vaughn on August 21, 1944 in LeClaire.  She preceded him in death on February 1, 2008.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Gregory Pelo of LeClaire; his grandchildren, David Pelo of LeClaire, Tyler (Kristen) Pelo of Seward, Alaska; and Janna (Rich) Creamer of Golden, Colorado; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Sidney Pelo.
