Gordon C. Jones, 70, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
A gathering of remembrance will be held from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Monday, June 29, 2009 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
Gordon was born July 20, 1938 in Marathon, Iowa. He entered the United States Marine Corps in January of 1958 and was honorably discharged in December of 1960. Gordon was united in marriage to Jeanne A. Roling on June 4, 1966 in Early, Iowa.
For the past three months, Gordon had been employed with Cooper Janitorial Service in Davenport. He had previously worked as a USDA meat inspector, for the Rock Island Arsenal, Sears and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf.
Gordon enjoyed tending to his fish pond, gardening, spending time with his family, fishing in Canada with buddies and helping his neighbors and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jeanne; his children, Tamara (Todd) Knapp of Aurora, Colorado, Patrick Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina and Alyssa Jones of Arvada, Colorado; his grandchildren, Sean, Benjamin, Ashley and BreAnna; his sisters, Nelda (Mark) and Rosemary; his brothers, Don, Terry and George; his sisters-in-law, Darlene (Robert) Noll of Early, Patti (Bill) Purvis of Early and Cheryl Purvis of Newell, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Don (Elaine) Roling of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Irene Roling of Early; and his special friends, Esther, Scott, Kevin, Dana, Barry, Frank and Erma.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Francis Ulrich; his son, Gordon, Jr.; and three sisters.
