Grace Uhr

Grace A. Uhr, 90, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bettendorf Presbyterian Church Sunday School Program.

Born on November 24, 1922 in Bettendorf, Grace was the daughter of William C. and Nettie (Milman) Griffin. On March 28, 1942 in Bettendorf, Grace married Raymond “Lyle” Uhr. He preceded her in death in July of 1972.

In her earlier years, Grace taught in country schools in Muscatine and Scott Counties. Grace and Lyle owned and operated Uhr Decorating in Bettendorf for many years. After Lyle’s death, Grace and her son, Terry maintained the business until Terry purchased it in 1979.

Grace was a member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School and Bible School for over 35 years.  She was an avid bowler and Chicago Cubs fan.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Terry (Carol) Uhr of Bettendorf and Becky Uhr of Davenport; one grandson, Taylor Uhr of Bettendorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Ralph and Bill Griffin.
