A memorial celebration for Grace W. Moline, 98, is scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2008, at McGinnis-Chambers in Bettendorf, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. and a service to celebrate Grace will begin at 10 a.m. A brief graveside service will follow at noon at the Galva Cemetery in Galva, Illinois.
Grace, a resident of Bettendorf, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Pathway Hospice at Trinity Terrace Park in Bettendorf.
Grace Cynthia Wilmot was born July 18, 1909, in Oneida, IL. She graduated from Watoga H.S. in 1928. She married Roland F. Moline, in 1931, in Galva, IL.
Grace was a farmer and housewife and was involved in many organizations including Bobtown Neighborhood Club, Henry County Farm Bureau, Kewanee Hog Days, the Galva Senior Citizens Center and the United Methodist Church. She was an avid volunteer and pioneered one of the first recycling programs during WW II and expanded recycling into the 1960s. Grace resided in Kewanee, IL, until she retired from farming in 1977, moving to Galva, Illinois. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother and most enjoyed visits from her children’s families and her many grand and great-grandchildren.
Grace is survived by a daughter, Betty Kay Moline Cerny and son-in-law, John, Bettendorf, IA; a son, Kelsey Lee Moline and Lynn, Floresville, TX; 8 grandchildren, Karen Lee (Moline) Hall, Farmington, N.M.; Kimber Lee Delorenzo, (Albert) Tucson, AZ; Michael Roland Moline, Glendale, AZ; Julie Cerny Moran, (John P.) Davenport, IA; Laura (Moline) Merritt (Kevin), Scottsdale, AZ; Elizabeth (Moline) Murphy, Murrieta, CA; Cynthia Sue (Robert Thomas) Flewellyn, Cummings, IA; and Nancy Kay Cerny, Pleasant Valley, IA. Additionally, she is survived by 15 great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly; a brother-in-law, David Lee Moline, Galva, IL; and many extended Wilmot and Moline family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland F. Moline, in 1954; her parents, Sidney R. and Ella A. (Dobson) Wilmot; two sisters, Jessie and Bessie, and five brothers, Sidney, Walter, Glenn, Ted, and Kelsey; sister-in-law, Doreen Moline, one grandson, David Louise Moline, and dear friend of the family, Ralph Nuding.
Memorials for Grace W. Moline may be directed to the Galva First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the help of dear friend, Ann (Nickels) Lawson, all of her friends at The Cumberland House, and the caring nursing staff at Trinity and Pathway Hospice.
