Guadalupe Martinez

Guadalupe Martinez, 95, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at her home with her family by her side.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Davenport.  Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Burial will be private.  Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

Guadalupe was born November 16, 1920 in Orange County, California, the daughter of Juan & Soledad Huizar.  She was united in marriage to Jose Francisco Martinez-Soto on February 8, 1941 in Mexico.  He preceded her in death on February 12, 2008.

Guadalupe loved her family and worked hard for them; she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She also enjoyed flowers and tending to her garden.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Raquel (Manuel) Bojorquez, of Hillsdale, Illinois, Rebecca (Lorenzo) Martinez, of Davenport, and Antonia (Henry) Godinez, of Lakeland, Florida; her sons, Francisco “Frank” (Juana) Huizar, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Gerardo (Julia) Huizar, of Davenport; 29 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Jose, she was preceded in death by her son, Gonzalo; three sisters and three brothers.
