Gus E. Youngberg, 70, a resident of Osage Beach, Missouri and formerly of Eldridge, Iowa died Sunday, March 15, 2004 at the home of a dear friend in Eldridge.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 17. 2004 at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. The family will greet friends after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Ellis Fishel Cancer Center in care of the University of Missouri-Columbia, One Hospital Dr., DC205.00, Columbia, MO 65201-9984.
Gus was born January 16, 1934 in Beacon, Iowa, the son of Lloyd & Wilma (Swim) Youngberg. On February 16, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judy A. Henryson in Corning, Iowa.
In 1956, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Spec. 3rd Class in 1958.
He was employed at Beling Consultants of Moline, Illinois for 12 years, retiring in 1997. He had formerly been employed by International Harvester in Bettendorf, Iowa for 27 years. In retirement, Gus & Judy spent many wonderful and memorable times at the Salty Dog in Osage Beach.
Gus was a tireless volunteer and had served as a member and president of the North Scott School Board. In addition, he served on the Eldridge Park Board for 16 years.
In his spare time, he loved to play golf and enjoyed fishing, boating and traveling. Some of his most enjoyable times where those spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Gus will be remembered for many wonderful things, one of which was his ability to make a wonderful pie.
Gus served as an official for high school softball & volleyball games and also coached Little League Baseball and softball as well.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Judy; his daughter & son-in-law, Leslie & James Palzkill of DeWitt, Iowa; his son & daughter-in-law, Kel & Dawn Youngberg of Blue Grass, Iowa; his grandchildren, Dylan, Steven, Brittany & Logan; his brother & sister-in-law, Richard & Rose Youngberg of Johnston, Iowa; and his beloved dog, "Murphy."
He was preceded in death by his parents.
