Harold B. Anderson, Jr. 81, a resident of rural Princeton, Iowa died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 peacefully at his farm home with members of his family by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 21, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9am - 11:00am. A graveside blessing will follow the service at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon, following the graveside service, at Boll's Community Center in Princeton. Memorials may be made to the Harold B. Anderson Memorial Fund. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harold was born March 15, 1933 in Geneseo, IL, the son of Harold Sr. and Ada (Bentley) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Margaret (Hamilton) in Argo, Iowa on April 16, 1952.
Harold was a caring and devoted father of 6 children; grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. Harold farmed in Princeton Township for over 64 years. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for Princeton Fire Department. He also worked in the North Scott School District as a bus driver and mechanic at the NS Bus Garage for 20 years. He finished his career providing 12 years of service to the Iowa DOT. Harold and Margaret were members of the Princeton Presbyterian Church where Harold served as a Trustee for many years.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Paul (Marijo) Anderson, Solon, Iowa; his daughters, Susie (Rocky) Shipman, Winterset, Lorene (Kip) Caldwell, Des Moines, Karen Soenksen (Jim Anderson), Princeton, Krista (David) Link, Eden Prairie, MN and Amy (Scott) Andersen, North Liberty; his grandchildren: Troy, Brandon, Kirsten, Katelyn, Abigail, Olivia, Catlin, Emily, Ben, Grace, Jonathon, Nick, Alex and Bailey; his great-granddaughters, Alexis and Josie. His brother, Alvin (Margie), Elburn, Il., sister-in-law, Kathleen Zimmer ; brothers-in-law Miles Wallingford and James (Carolyn) Hamilton, many nieces and nephews along with many life-long friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; his son-in-law, Paul Soenksen, his parents, four special siblings and several in-laws. Harold's final wishes were to be able to live his final days and weeks in his rural Iowa home. His children all cared for him 24/7 along with professional visits from Genesis Hospice. Harold left this life peacefully in his sleep...a life well-lived.
