Harold Byrd

Harold W. Byrd, 89, of Davenport, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Senior Star at Elmore Place in Davenport, Iowa.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Memory Care Unit at Senior Star or Jane’s Place at the Center for Active Seniors in Davenport.

Harold was born December 1, 1923 in Bridgeport, Illinois.  He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Harold was united in marriage to Margaret L. “Margie” Hinterscher on November 25, 1950 in Olney, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on June 19, 2009.

He retired from Alcoa, Riverdale Works in 1985 after 34 years of employment.

Those left to honor his memory include his children Gloria Byrd of LeClaire, Iowa; Gary and Mary Lou Byrd of Donahue, Iowa; Larry and Pam Byrd of Dayton, Ohio; Loretta Yigas of Bettendorf, Iowa and Wesley Byrd of LeClaire, Iowa; his grandchildren Nathan and Kellie Byrd, Laura & David Sufka, Maria Byrd, Sara Byrd, Alex Byrd, Frank and Gwen Fuerte, and Nick Yigas.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Memory Care Unit at Senior Star, Jane’s Place and to Kelly Wiley for all of their exemplary care and compassion towards Harold.

In addition to his wife, Margie, he was preceded in death by his parents; and by his son-in-law, John N. Yigas.
