Harold Holland

Harold John Holland, 46, a resident of Princeton, Iowa died on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa following an extended illness.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, Iowa. Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Those wishing to attend can meet at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge at 9:15 a.m. on Monday. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born May 8, 1965, the son of Lawrence & Frances (Henkel) Holland.  On October 19, 1988, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Fletcher in Newport News, Virginia.

He served in the U.S. Army for nearly 10 years and was honorably discharged in 1992.

Harold was employed as a mechanic in the automotive service business until his illness prevented him from working.

Among the things he enjoyed were working on vehicles, reading, watching movies and listening to country music.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Beth; his son, Eric Holland of Ames, Iowa; his father, Lawrence Holland; his sisters, Barbara (the late John) Outcalt, Linda (Thomas) Russell, Betsy (Pat) Hess, Mary (the late Donald) Schmidt, Carol Holland and Cathy (Mark) Helling; his brothers, Paul (Marcia) Holland, Lawrence (Tammie) Holland Jr. and Frank Holland; many nieces & nephews; and his beloved canine companions, Jake & Sassy.

Harold was preceded in death by his mother; his sisters, Rose Pettera, Susie Avercamp & Lorraine Holland; and his brother, William Holland.
