Harold L. Schwerdtfeger Jr., 89, of Davenport passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Davenport Lutheran Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Harold was born March 5, 1934 in West Liberty, Iowa, to Harold and Margaret (Enderle) Schwerdtfeger Sr. On July 5, 1952, he married Shirley Hildebrand in Bettendorf. In 1973, they moved to southern California where Harold worked for Rod’s Food Products in Industry, California. In 1994, they returned to the Quad Cities. Over the years, Harold worked for various companies, including Bettendorf Company, Oscar Mayer, and two western stores in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also served as Assistant Fire Chief in Ridgeview.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Shirley Schwerdtfeger of Bettendorf; children, Robert (Arlene) Schwerdtfeger of Davenport and Cindy (David) Rimington of Prophetstown, Illinois; brother, Roger (Rosemary) Schwerdtfeger of Davenport; grandchildren, Michelle (Jonny) Taylor, Michael (Caroline) Schliesman, and Jason (Dureen) Jackson; step-grandchildren, Charles (Estelle) Denison, Cathleen (John) Eckert, Joe (Roxie Allen) Jackson, and Kelli (Jeremy) Willis, Steven (Terri) Schwerdtfeger; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Fiefield, Blake, Kaitlyn, and Jaelynn Jackson, Jordan and Ian Schwerdtfeger; step-great-grandchildren, Candyce Eckert, Rebecca Eckert, Erin Eckert, Joseph Jackson II, Shy Ann Jackson, Dillon Jackson, Angela Jackson, Joseph Daus, Jacob Daus, Justin Jackson, and Blas Salas; step-great-great-grandchildren, Kylee, Wesley, Emily, Mason, Landon, and several others on the East Coast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Glenn, Harry, Mary Claire, George, Nyline, James, Allen, and Margaret; son-in-law, Leonard “Butch” Jackson; great-grandson, Leonard “Leo” Jackson; and great-great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Schaapveld.
