Harold L. Teel, Sr., 78, of New Windsor, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and faithful dog Pepper.
His visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2018 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A celebration of his life will be held at his home, 735 310th Street in New Windsor at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018. A private burial will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery on Friday, April 13, 2018. Memorials may be made to Defenders of Freedom, an organization that provides building work and repairs for veterans.
Harold was born January 13, 1940 in Montpelier, Iowa, a son of Harold A. & Mary (Penrod) Teel. He entered the United States Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1962. Harold was united in marriage to Glenda E. Jones on July 1, 1961 in Davenport.
Harold was a carpenter by trade. He owned 27 acres of land in New Windsor that he eventually split between his four children. He spent many joyful hours building houses for his kids and tending to the land. He had a tremendous work ethic that he instilled within all the members of his family. Many of his hobbies included caring for his horses and dogs, fishing, boating, mowing the lawn, and giving the grandchildren rides on his motorized wheelchairs and lawnmowers. He always enjoyed helping his neighbors and spending time with his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Glenda; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & David Lash of Montpelier; his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold & Hope Teel of New Windsor, Mark & April Teel of Moline and Mike & Lori Teel of New Windsor; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Burchfield of Missouri, Jeanette & Sonny Bachman of Davenport, Linda & Larry Thomas of Davenport and Diane & Tony Arguello of Davenport; his brother, Jim Myers of Washington; and his sister-in-law, Mary Teel of Indiana.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mike Teel; his grandson, Seth Teel; his great-grandchildren, Danika and Madison Gerber and Sadie Burroughs; and his daughter-in-law, Lorna Teel.
