Harold E. Troyer, 74, a resident of Blue Grass, Iowa passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church or the Blue Grass Lions Club.
He was born June 5, 1934 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Chris E. & Cora (Miller) Troyer. On June 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Schroll in Wayland, Iowa.
Harold retired on December 1, 1990 as a shipping department supervisor for Jaydon, Inc. of Rock Island, Illinois. In earlier years, he had worked as a farmer.
In addition to the church, he was a loyal member of the Blue Grass Lions Club where he served as Secretary/Treasurer since 1989.
He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed other sports as well. Gardening was a favorite of activity until his health declined in recent years.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Evelyn; his daughters, Cherie S. (Brian) Swisher of Davenport, Iowa and Julie (David Rowe) Troyer of Littleton, Colorado; his sons, Gary A. Troyer of Blue Grass and Mark (Michelle) Troyer of Davenport; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lois (Neil) Birky of Portland, Oregon, Wava (Ray) Reschly of Kalona, Iowa, Carolyn (Dr. Vern) Vaandrager of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mary (Dick Means) Troyer of Riverside, Iowa; his brothers, Paul (Arlene) Troyer of Kalona, Wilber (Nadene) Troyer of Nampa, Idaho, Donald (Phyllis) Troyer of Nampa, Idaho, John (Joanne) Troyer of Houston, Texas and Keith (Linda) Troyer of Kalona; his sister-in-law, Ferne Troyer of Kalona; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
His brother, Cleo, his sister, Marjorie and his parents preceded him in death.
