Harold F. Kroeger, 77, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Monday, August 28, 2006 in Cresco, Iowa following a sudden illness.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will be in Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the A.S.H.H.S. Endowment Fund or the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born on November 1, 1928 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Theodore & Mabel (Thiel) Kroeger. On May 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Janice A. Marten at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Harold owned & operated H. F. Kroeger Trucking in Eldridge, a company he founded in 1958. He semi-retired in 1993 and continued to drive when needed.
His memberships included the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department where he served for nearly 50 years, the Eldridge Lions Club, the Knights of Pythias, the Antique Truck Association and the American-Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society where he organized the annual parade.
Harold was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping and loved to play cards with his many friends. In his spare time, he liked to work on his antique trucks and especially loved the time he spent with his beloved family & grandkids.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janice; his daughter, Susan (David) Graham of Bristol, England; his sons, Kent (Diane) Kroeger of Johnston, Iowa, Kevin (Lynn) Kroeger of Eldridge, Steven (Susan) Kroeger of Eldridge and Dean (Debra) Kroeger of Bartlett, Illinois; seventeen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Inez (Burleigh) Sharp of Davenport; his brothers, Warren Kroeger of Buffalo, Missouri, Earl (Martha) Kroeger of Rock Island, Illinois and Duane (Patricia) Kroeger of Donahue, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Elna Gries; and his brothers, Vernon, Reldo, Delwyn and Arlen.
