Harold J. Bloom, 88, a resident of rural Montpelier, Iowa died on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 28, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born October 25, 1917 in Taylor Ridge, Illinois, the son of James W. & Mamie (Locey) Bloom. On March 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Bohlmeyer at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Harold was a life-long farmer in Montpelier Township, retiring in 1979.
During World War II, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic in Australia and New Guinea. He serviced many aircraft, but his favorite was the P-38 Fighter. Following the war, he was honorably discharged in 1945.
Harold enjoyed going squirrel hunting, traveling and riding in his golf cart with his beloved dog, “Sparky.”
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy; his daughters & sons-in-law, Barbara & Harold Olsen of Blue Grass and Bernice & Arlyn Koeppe of Stockton, Iowa; his sons & daughters-in-law, James & Janice Bloom and John Bloom, all of Montpelier Township; his grandchildren, Denise Fowler & her husband, Lee, Brad Dipple, Brian Dipple, Cindy Dipple, Danny Dipple, Greg Dipple, Jodi Bloom, Jennifer Bloom, Jeromy Bloom & his wife, Lucy, Jason Schroeder, Michael K. Bloom, Scott Olsen and Steve Olsen; his great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Brandon, Steven, Skylar S., Austin, Kelsey, Skylar K., Stephanie, Madison & Amy; and his great-great-grandchildren, Derek & Dylan.
Harold was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lisa Dipple; his great-grandson, Zachary Fowler; and his brothers, Huey Bloom and Ralph Bloom.
