Harriet E. Joens, 81, of LeClaire, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. Mary’s Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Davenport, Iowa.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Buffalo Bill Museum or Camp Wyoming. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 4, 1933 in Lusk, Wyoming, Harriet was the daughter of Harry Finley Fertig and Elizabeth Rebecca (Clark) Fertig-Knapp. On April 6, 1957 in LeClaire, she married Raymond August Joens.
Harriet graduated from Augustana College as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport and was a nursing instructor at St. Luke’s School of Nursing. Harriet then worked for the former Moline Lutheran Hospital, where she retired. She was a volunteer EMT with LeClaire Ambulance Service where she also served as president. She was a 45 year member of the American Nursing Association, volunteer at the Buffalo Bill Museum, Camp Counselor and nurse for Camp Wyoming in Wyoming, Iowa and volunteered taking people’s blood pressure at her church and at Schwenke’s Pharmacy in LeClaire. Harriet enjoyed reading and traveling with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ray; son, Bruce Alan (Lori) Joens of Clinton, Iowa; daughter, Joyce Elaine Joens of Davenport; two grandchildren, Andrea Jean (Adam) Reuter of Preston, Iowa and Adam Michael (Katherine) Joens of Savanna, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Blake Alan and William Edward Reuter and Gemma Elaine and Nora Louise Joens; sister, E. Florence Taets of Moline; two cousins from the State of Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
