Harriet C. Strohbehn, 81, a resident of Donahue, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Committal services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa by 9:30 A.M. on Thursday. Per her request, there will be no visitation and cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department or Genesis VNA Hospice.
Harriet was born July 19, 1926 in Davenport, the daughter of Frank & Katherine (Kelting) Fahrenkrug. Her mother married Herman Roehs who was much like a father to Harriet. She was united in marriage to Harold L. Strohbehn on March 4, 1944 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2004.
Katherine had worked for JCPenney’s in Davenport in earlier years, but she devoted much of her life to her home and family. She loved bowling, dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sharon (John) Kundel, of Davenport, Mike (Don) Strobbe, of Bettendorf, Iowa, Penny Strohbehn, of Harker Heights, Texas, Debbie (Brad) Hancock, of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Kim (Bill) Engler, of Princeton, Iowa; her sons, Bruce (Darlene) Strohbehn, of Calamus, Iowa, and Rick (Judy) Strohbehn, of Eldridge; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Viola Fahrenkrug, of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, Harold, Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father; her sisters, Marie Eickhoff, Freda Hurley, Bernette Miller, Bernice Bruhn and Betty Kulhavy; and her brothers, Fredrick, Albert, Russell and Frank.
