Harry E. Morris, 83, a resident of Calamus, Iowa died Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born March 17, 1920 in West Liberty, Iowa, the son of James & Harriet (Kennedy) Morris. He married Lavon D. Wilmes in Bettendorf on April 8, 1950. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1991.
Harry was employed as a truck driver for the W.G. Block Company in Davenport, Iowa for many years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 351st Infantry. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 6 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Gail Youngman of DeWitt, Iowa and Rachel Bibby of Calamus; his sons, Jerry of Janesville, Wisconsin, David of Aldrich, Missouri, James of Clinton, Iowa and John of Rock Island, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Rosemary Siem of Davenport.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Harry Jr. and by several sisters & brothers.
