Hazel Marie Chandler, 93, a resident of Bettendorf, formerly of Bloomfield, IA, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Bettendorf Health Care Center in Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorials Gardens in Davenport. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Hazel was born on August 6, 1921 in Bloomfield, the daughter of Henry Tone and Allie May (Wilson) Yates. She married Olen Chandler on October 3, 1939 in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2014.
Hazel and Olen raised their children on a small farm in Bloomfield. Hazel loved having family and friends over, sharing a good laugh or story. She played the piano, banjo, guitar and harmonica and shared her musical talent at neighborhood get-togethers.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Donald Chandler of Davenport and Doran (Bernadette) Chandler of Bettendorf; daughter, Shirley Martin of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Dennis Martin; daughter-in-law, Joan Chandler; brothers, Carl and Glenn and sisters, Naoma and Velma.
