Helen Michelle Raker, 64, of Moline, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf where she was a member. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home and one hour before the services Friday at the church. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Michelle was born November 28, 1951 in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Harold Dean and Charyl L. (Bump) Lane, who was her adoptive mother. She was united in marriage to Damon G. Raker on October 23, 1971 in Havana, Illinois.
Michelle was an environmental services tech at UnityPoint Health Trinity in Rock Island, retiring in 2014 due to poor health.
She enjoyed camping and fishing, Nascar, traveling, bicycling, gardening, lunch with friends, word searches, but especially spending time with her daughter and her dog, Max.
Those left to honor Michelle’s memory include her husband, Damon; her daughter, Sarah Raker and son-in-law, Erik Sandmore of Moline; her brothers Allan Lane of Louisville, Kentucky and Bryan (Marie) Lane of Indian Land, South Carolina; her sister and brother-in-law, Marsha & Jim Jones of Moline; her sister-in-law, Claudette Gentry of Rockford, Illinois; and her brother-in-law, Roger & Janice Akre of Monterey, California.
Her family would like to thank Michelle’s oncologist, Michael Porubcin, MD and his staff, the Cancer center staff at UnityPoint Health, UnityPoint Health Trinity Hospice, her parish nurses, Carol Jackson and Brenda Sherrick and Costello Construction for their tender loving care and support for Michelle during her battle with cancer.
