Helen Margaret Frickel, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
She was born July 5, 1918 in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Adolf & Margaret (Flemmang) Bolster. On April 20, 1939, she was united in marriage to Alan E. Frickel in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2000.
Helen was a homemaker and served as a crossing guard at 18th St. & Lincoln in Bettendorf for many years. She was a devoted wife & mother and enjoyed cooking & sewing for her family. Helen & her husband had a special place in their hearts for children and for over 25 years, served as foster parents to 87 children.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters & son-in-law, Susan Stickel of Pensacola, Florida and Lori & Stephen Riley of Montgomery, Texas; her son, Gregory of Bettendorf; three grandchildren; her sisters & brothers-in-law, Mary Ann & Ken Wilkison of Davenport and Frances & Ray Paulsen of Waterloo, Iowa; and her brother & sister-in-law, John & Thelma Bolster of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alvera Beckman & Catherine Dexter Ven Horst; and her brothers, Theodore Bolster and William Bolster.
