Henry William “Hank” Keppy III, 79, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson ’s disease.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church of Eldridge where he was a member. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
He was born June 17, 1931 in Sheridan Township in Scott County, the son of Henry & Norma (Schneekloth) Keppy Jr. He was a 1949 graduate of Davenport High School. On January 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Louise M. Knuth at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Hank farmed for 36 years in rural Eldridge and was member and former secretary of the Scott County Farm Bureau. He also served on the council of the Scott County Extension Service and was well-known for his ability to judge livestock, particularly cattle. In earlier years, he was active in 4-H as a leader and enjoyed coaching 4-H softball & basketball. He was also a former president of the church council and enjoyed coaching church league softball, baseball and basketball.
He loved his country, his farm and most of all, his beloved family. While his children attended North Scott schools, Hank was an active member and former president of the North Scott Athletic Boosters.
In addition to the church, he was a former member of the Elk’s Lodge and the Davenport Moose. Hank & Louise loved to dance and spent many Friday & Saturday nights on the dance floor at area ballrooms.
After he retired from farming, Hank drove a school bus for the North Scott School District before his health began to fail him several years ago.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of over 60 years, Louise; his daughters, Karen (James) Uschkrat of Sugar Land, Texas and Donna (Don) Hamann of Davenport; his sons, Gary (Pat) Keppy of Euless, Texas and Tom Keppy of Maysville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jeanette (Alvin) Korthaus of Davenport and Velma Arp of Bettendorf, Iowa; his brother, William Keppy of Eldridge; and his sister-in-law, Jean Keppy of Eldridge.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alfred Keppy; and his brother-in-law, Ted Arp.
