Herbert D. Goettsch, 83, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home.  He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015.  Memorials may be made to The Friends of Bettendorf Park Foundation.

Herb was born August 2, 1932 in Davenport, the son of Hans C. and Anna M. (Butenschon) Goettsch.  He served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1955.  Herb was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dolores D. Peters, on June 4, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2011.

Long time co-owner of H & H Car Care & Towing with his big brother Hans, Herb was very active in the community.   He served as volunteer firefighter for 32 years, twice as President; Park Board member for 24 years, seven of those as Chairperson; with Little League baseball for 10 years; Cub Scout Cub Master for 5 years; N.R.P.A. member and office holder for 18 years; Iowa Park & Recreation Association representative for 14 years, twice as President; and Halloween Parade Marshall in 1983.  Herb was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce for 15 years; Friends of Lincoln Center; founding chairperson of Discover the River Committee; Quad Cities River Action Committee; Mayor’s Committee to Develop the Riverfront; Parks, Education, City past chairperson; VFW Life Member; Early Ford Club of America; National Federation of Independent Businesses for 12 years; and Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Foundation Committee.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Sherri (John) Voelliger and son, Craig (Vicky) Goettsch, both of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Ashley (Joe) Garrison, Stephanie (Justin) Brandt and Tim Goettsch; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores; his son, Herbie; his brother Hans and sister-in-law, Dorothy.
