Obituary: Herbert F. Atwood
Herbert F. Atwood, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Pleasant Valley.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family, Genesis Visiting Nurses, the Iowa Hospice of Muscatine, Riverview Manor Nursing Home or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
He was born February 1, 1918 in Linneus, Missouri, the son of Thomas LeRoy & Annabelle (Hines) Atwood. On May 14, 1941, he was united in marriage to Edna I. Maxwell in Trenton, Missouri.
Herbert & Edna owned & operated Edna’s Café in Riverdale, Iowa for 31 years, retiring in 1993.
Some of Herbert’s fondest memories were camping with his family along the Cedar River. He especially enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren & great-grandchildren at the campground with rides on the golf cart.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Edna; his daughter, Shirlene (Jack) Hoots and his son, Herbert Janeil (Kathie) Atwood, all of Riverdale; his grandchildren, Kevin (Jaime) Atwood of Moline, Illinois, Aaron (Shelly) Hoots of Bettendorf and Kimberlee (Brad) Robertson of LeClaire, Iowa; and ten great-grandchildren.
His brothers, Orville, LeeRoy & Jack “Tex” Atwood and his sisters, Florence & Edith preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank the many people who cared for him during the past few years; Dr. Packy Huettman & Staff, Dr. Nidal Harb & Staff, Dr. Gary Pribble & Staff, Dr. Andrew Edwards & Staff, Genesis Infusion Center Staff, Genesis VNA, Riverview Manor, Iowa Hospice and Ken Riedesel.
