Herbert E. “Herbie” Goettsch, 53, a resident of San Diego, California and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died of natural causes at his home on Monday, January 11, 2010. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Park Foundation .McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born April 6, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa, the beloved son of Herbert D. & Dolores D. (Peters) Goettsch. Herbie was a 1974 graduate of Bettendorf High School where he was a quarterback on the varsity football team, played on the the varsity baseball team and was a member of the Bettendorf High School Band. He also played quarterback for the former Quad-City Mohawks Semi-Pro Football Team.
While in Bettendorf, Herbie worked for the family business, H & H Car Care. After moving to California, he was employed at Roadway Express, San Diego MAC and Dohrn Industries of Phoenix, Arizona.
Among the things he enjoyed were flying, playing golf, over-the-road trucks and spending time with his many friends.
He was united in marriage to Scharlett Firchow in San Diego on November 11, 2000.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Scharlett; his parents, Herb & Dolores Goettsch of Bettendorf; his sister, Sherri (John) Voelliger of Bettendorf; his brother, Craig (Vicki) Goettsch of Bettendorf; his nieces, Ashley Voelliger & Stephanie Goettsch; his nephew, T.C. Goettsch; and several aunts, uncles & cousins.
