Hollis H. “Buck” Fish, 66, a resident of Park View, Iowa died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Park View Lutheran Church where he was a member and sang in the choir. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Graveside services with military honors will take place at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge, Iowa at 9:45 A.M. Monday. Memorials may be made to Park View Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
He was born April 22, 1944 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Hollis E. & Blanche (Reichart) Fish and was a 1963 graduate of Victor (Iowa) High School. Hollis was baptized on June 29, 1959 at the Victor Baptist Church of Victor, Iowa and confirmed on October 25, 1987 at Faith Lutheran Church of Lake Forest, Illinois.
On September 20, 1975, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Kalainoff in Denver, Iowa.
Buck served for 22 years in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and had served on the USS Repose in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged as an E-7 in 1988. During his military career he was also stationed at military bases in Taiwan, Japan, Cuba, Pennsylvania and Great Lakes, Illinois. Following his military service, he was employed as an environmentalist for the Scott County Health Department, retiring in 2006.
Hunting & fishing were two of his favorite activities. He loved to sing, enjoyed Southern Gospel music, always had a good joke to tell and will long be remembered by his family and many friends for his good sense of humor and his gentle personality. He took great pride in and dearly loved his granddaughter, Emery.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his daughter, Kimberly (Andrew) Cronkleton of Donahue, Iowa; his son, Benjamin Fish of Denver, Colorado; his granddaughter, Emery Cronkleton; his sister, Mary E. Fish of Victor, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Hilda Kalainoff of Denver, Iowa; his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Bruce & Kathy Kubik of Denver, Iowa, Robert & Virginia Otto of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Richard & Elaine Buchholz of Denver, Iowa Paul & Susan Kalainoff of Eldridge, Iowa, David & Debbie Kalainoff of Bernardsville, New Jersey and Mark & Yancy Kalainoff of Los Angeles, California; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.
His infant brother and his parents preceded him in death.
