Howard David (Dave) Talbot, 77, a resident of rural Eldridge, Iowa died on Monday, September 22, 2008 at his home following a long & courageous battle with cancer and other illnesses.
Private family services will be held at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
He was born January 25, 1931 in Bussey, Iowa, the son of Howard Bruce & Maude (Keller) Talbot. On June 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Yeater in Oakland, California.
Dave retired in March of 1996 as a maintenance mechanic for the Oscar Mayer & Company in Davenport, Iowa where he had been employed for 27 years.
Among his hobbies were woodworking, lapidary work, making jewelry, stained glass, silversmithing, gunsmithing and reading.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1953.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Ellen; his daughters, Debora Lynn Talbot of Eldridge, Vicki Lea Talbot of Eldridge and Cynthia Ann (Glen) Shriver of Poynette, Wisconsin; his sons, Calvin Thomas (Deb) Talbot of Eldridge and Howard Elliott Talbot of Moline, Illinois & his fiancé, Brooke Hollars; his grandchildren, Charlie Gentner, Katrina Thompson, Jessi Steinbeck, Jaime Steinbeck, Sarah Shriver, Samantha Shriver, Josh (Michelle) Talbot, Melissa Talbot, Calvin Talbot, Matthew Talbot & Rachel Talbot, Alexis Camacho, Adrienne Talbot; his great-grandchildren, Vega, Zelda, Kaeryc, Austin & Blake; and several nieces & nephews including Carol, Donald Bruce and David McGregor.
His sister, Jerry Ann McGregor (who also passed away on September 22, fifteen years ago), his nephew, Bill McGregor and his great-granddaughter, Hayley, preceded Dave in death.
