Ila B. Smock, 82, of Davenport, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf after a 20-month battle with cancer.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Ila was born on February 2, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Galen and Lelia Grace (Fitzpatrick) Smock.
Following high school, Ila worked at Nichol’s Aluminum. She learned key punching and data entry and worked for the Rock Island Arsenal, Alcoa and then retired from John Deere after many years of service.
Ila’s memberships included, Women of the Moose, CASI, and The 1930’s Club. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, traveling, and dancing. Ila had an extensive doll collection and sewed doll clothes. She loved spending time with her family to which she was very giving and supportive, and with friends.
Those left to honor her memory include: three sisters, Peggy I. Smock of New Mexico, Lois J. (Richard) Palmisano of Omaha, NE and Micki L. Johnson of Davenport; one brother, Leroy G. (Marilyn) Smock of Atalissa; numerous nieces and nephews, especially, Mike Smock, Michelle Coghill and their families, Jason Johnson, Benjamin Johnson and Joshua Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles A. Smock; three sisters, Betty M. Riley, Mary Lucille Lorenz and Linda Sue Smock.
