Ileene D. Piehl, 64, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf after a 6 year battle with breast cancer.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at
Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, where she was a loyal &
faithful member. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the McGinnis-Chambers
Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran
Church or the Genesis VNA Hospice.

Ileene was born February 9, 1943, in Center Township, O’Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of Irvin & Norma (Steuck) Brinkert. She was a graduate of Primghar High School & the State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls. On June 25, 1966, she was united in marriage to Wayne R. Piehl in Sanborn, Iowa with whom she shared over 40 wonderful years.

Ileene was a devoted wife & mother & worked as a substitute teacher for over 30 years, primarily in business education at Bettendorf High School.

She was very active in a multitude of church activities & was a long-time
member of the choir. Whenever help was needed, Ileene was there to lead the way or lend a hand. In addition to the church, she was active in Aid Association for Lutherans, a member of Gilda’s Club, & was a former 4-H Leader. She also enjoyed her
volunteer work with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore Program.

Ileene was an accomplished baker & pie-maker, & her homemade mints were a favorite at weddings. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing & was an avid fan of the Bettendorf Bulldogs & the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Her family was the joy of her life & those left to honor her memory
include her beloved husband, Wayne; her children, Janet (Dave) Moeller of
Marion, Iowa, Nancy Piehl of Wheeling, Illinois, Kathy (Mark) Lange of
Atkins, Iowa, Debra Piehl of North Liberty, Iowa; & Daniel (Jess)
Piehl of Palatine, Illinois; her grandchildren, Darci Lange & Grant Lange; her mother, Norma Brinkert of Sanborn, Iowa; her sisters, Jan (Terry) Gambaiani of
Bloomington, Minnesota, & Linda Brinkert of Sioux City, Iowa; & her
brothers, Ron (Sharon) Brinkert of Grand Forks, North Dakota, & Roger
(Carol) Brinkert of Primghar, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father, Irvin Brinkert.
