Irene H. Latimer, 91, a resident of the Bettendorf Healthcare Center and formerly of Moline, Illinois and Springfield, Missouri died on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the healthcare center.
Family services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel of Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
She was born March 3, 1919 in Powersville, Missouri, the daughter of Audrey Steven & Edith Ellen (Robinson) Ellis. On April 16, 1937, she was united in marriage to Everett D. Latimer in Springfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
Irene was an accomplished seamstress and worked in the garment industry for a number of years. In earlier years, she was employed in the Dairy & Bakery Departments of Eagle’s Foods.
Among the things she enjoyed were crochet, knitting, gardening, traveling, attending functions at the Senior Citizens Group in Moline and spending time with her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Nadine Collier of South Bend, Indiana and Wanda Jarrin of Rock Island, Illinois; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Evelyn Bland of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Grace Doolittle of Midland, Texas; and her brother, Robert Ellis of Midland, Texas.
Irene was preceded in death by her sisters, Christine and Rosalie and her brothers, Bert, Louis, Truman, John & Mike.
