Irene Pokorny

Irene L. Pokorny, 89, of Davenport, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport where she was a member.

Irene was born July 4, 1922 in Princeton, Iowa, the daughter of John E. & Pearl C. (Titcomb) Blocker. She was united in marriage to Walter A. Pokorny on February 17, 1940 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2001.

Irene retired in 1982 after 31 years of employment at Oscar Mayer in Davenport. In addition to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, she was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge and the Quad-Cities Plus 60 Club. Irene will be remembered as a kind lady who enjoyed spending time with her beloved family.

Those left to honor her memory include her son, Walter J. “Bud” Pokorny of Davenport; her grandchildren, Ryan Lee Pokorny & Melinda Jo Hart; her great-grandchildren, Patricia & Travis; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to her husband, Walter, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patricia on March 6, 1995; and four sisters.
