Irene L. Schumacher, 94, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.
She was born January 9, 1916 in St. Peter, Minnesota, the daughter of Michael & Grace (Iten) Osborne. On July 18, 1942, she was united in marriage to Dean E. Schumacher in Washington State. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1982.
The Schumacher farm along Moenck’s Road in Pleasant Valley is now the Sunrise Golf Course and is still operated by the family. Irene spent several years working there herself and was also an Avon representative for 35 years. She loved life on the farm, doing crafts and caring for her flower garden.
Irene was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf and was a former member of the Davenport Moose.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Carol (Bob) Levy of Lexington, Missouri; her sons, David (Jan) Schumacher of DeWitt, Iowa, James Schumacher of Bettendorf, Mike (Jackie) Schumacher of LeClaire, Iowa and Gary Schumacher of Bettendorf; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Mike (Jean) Osborne of St. Peter, Minnesota.
In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
