Irene M. Johannsen, 86, a resident of Maysville, Iowa died on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Private family services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born November 11, 1918 in Scott County, Iowa, the beloved daughter of William & Anne (Wulf) Knutsen. On November 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to Elmer C. Johannsen in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death in March of 1984.
Irene & her husband farmed for many years in the Maysville area, retiring in 1968. Irene was also employed as the Dietary Supervisor at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center for 22 years and in earlier years, worked as a waitress in Davenport.
She was Past Grand Manager of the Temple of Pythian Sisters in Dixon and was a member & past-president of the Dixon American Legion Auxillary.
One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo with her many friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter & son-in-law, Loretta & Tom Phillips of Walcott, Iowa; her sons & daughter-in-law, Gary Johannsen of Walcott and Dean & Michele Johannsen of Blue Grass, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her sisters, Velma Oetzmann & her husband, Roland of Eldridge, Arla Peters of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Evelyn Marxen of Davenport and Ruby Roehs of DeWitt, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kristen Hendricks; her sisters, Florence & Esther; her brothers, Harold, Herbert, William & Leonard Knutsen; and her step-sister, Norma Roehs.
