Isadore C. “Izzy” Martin, 97, a former resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Davenport Good Samaritan Society.
She was born in Marion, Iowa on August 2, 1917, the daughter of Frederick and Dollie (Izer) Neal. On February 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Warren C. Martin in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Izzy was employed by the American Optical Company of Davenport and Dubuque, retiring some years ago after 24 ½ years of faithful service.
She was a member and circle member of the former St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of Davenport. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, reading, babysitting, baking and making candy, especially during the holidays.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Linda (Ken) Jones of Bettendorf; her son, Jack Martin of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Christopher (& his fiancé, Nancy Tomaszewski) Jones, Karrie (Brian Stock) Jones and Jennifer (Mark) Lemon; her great-grandchildren, Kelci Filgo, Nicholas Lemon, Grant Lemon and Brody Stock; and her great-great-grandchildren, Jacey and Logan.
Those preceding her in death were her great-grandsons, Ethan and Andrew; two sisters; and four brothers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan for the care that was given to Izzy while she was there.
