J. Ehlers

J. William “Bill” Ehlers, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, died November 18, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on May 2, 1929 in Iowa City, Bill was the son of William H. and Hazel I. (Gregorius) Ehlers. On November 1, 1958 in Davenport, he married Wilma Elliott.

Bill graduated from Davenport High School in 1947 and was a business major at the University of Iowa. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War. After serving his time in the military, Bill worked in the business forms industry for forty-one years.

Bill was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Bettendorf. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized. He was a sports enthusiast and was on bowling leagues for many years.  Bill cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Wilma; children, Susanna (Joe) Buck of Bettendorf and Matthew Ehlers of Bellevue, NE; and grandchildren, Jonathan Buck and Sarah Buck.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
