Jack R. Grothusen, 78, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Bettendorf Lions Club or the Salvation Army.
He was born in Davenport on January 27, 1937, the son of Raymond and Doris (Stetson) Grothusen and served in the United States Army Reserve for several years. On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to Evalie M. Brockhouse in Davenport.
Jack was a graduate of the University of Iowa in Iowa City and the School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. He began his long career in banking many years ago at the former Davenport Bank & Trust of Davenport and later moved to the former Bettendorf Bank where he worked primarily in mortgage lending for many years. Jack retired several years ago, but continued in banking with the American Bank until his final retirement.
Jack & Evalie loved to travel and visited many places throughout the world. Some of their most enjoyable times were spent at their condo in Door County, Wisconsin where they made many dear friends over the years. They also enjoyed playing cards, biking and above all, times spent with their beloved family.
His memberships included St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the Bettendorf Lions Club, where he was past-president. In addition, Jack also served on the board of Luther Properties which managed several senior housing facilities in the Quad-Cities.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Evalie; his daughter, Krista (Michael) Decker of Bettendorf; his son, Erick (Liz) Grothusen of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Jake, Ben & Emma Decker and Jack, Adam and Mia Grothusen; his brother, Bill (Shelia) Grothusen of Bettendorf; and many other relatives and wonderful friends. Jack truly loved and enjoyed being an active and involved grandfather, affectionately called "Papa."
His parents preceded him in death.
