Jack A. Thomsen, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, December 2, 2005, surrounded by his family at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf. Per his request, no services or visitation will be held. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will take place at a later date. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack was born February 23, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Armand P. & Lorraine L. (Howes) Thomsen. He was united in marriage to the former Virginia “Pat” Gentzler on December 19, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa.
Jack was retired from KROS radio in Clinton, Iowa where he was Program Director. He was named to the KROS Hall of Fame on September 17, 1998. He had also worked at WOC-AM Radio from 1953 to 1987. He was a News Anchor for 10 years and then News Director for 25 years. He retired in 1987.
Jack was past president of the Rock Island Rotary Club and he had served on the Iowa State Criminal Commission by appointment from former Governor Robert Ray. Additionally, he served as chairman for the Iowa Law Enforcement Committee for one year.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Pat; his daughter, Lori Jarvis, of Bettendorf; his son, Jack Jr., of Tustin, California; his son and daughter-in-law, Dana & Eleanor Thomsen, of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren; and his beloved Doberman Pinscher, Kody.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
