James C. “Jim” Brown, 68, of Bettendorf, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, May 28, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Davenport Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America-Quad-Cities Chapter 299.  Those wishing to attend the committal service should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home by 9:30 on Tuesday morning.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Fire Department or to the American Diabetes Association.

Jim was born March 5, 1949 in Davenport, the son of Elmer L. & Hazel J. (Hansen) Brown.  Jim was a graduate of Davenport Central High School and had worked on his uncle’s farm in LeClaire as a teen.

He served in the United States Army in Germany for three years.

Jim was employed by the City of Bettendorf for 35 years in the Public Works Department.  He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was an avid hunter in his younger years and he looked forward to attending the Mississippi Valley Fair every year. Jim always enjoyed his collection of cars and trucks through the years too.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Amanda Adamson-Browder of Amarillo, Texas; his sisters, Elaine Miller of Rushville, Nebraska, Barb Loncarich of Bettendorf, Nancee (Tom) Moffit of LeClaire, Iowa and Shirley (DeWayne) Blank of Punta Gorda, Florida; his brother, Merle Brown of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
