James J. Carpa Jr., 78, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 surrounded by his family at The Fountains, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Tuesday, November 15th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Jim was born on September 1, 1944 in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of James and Helen (Dedo) Carpa Sr. At the age of 21 he entered the U.S. Air Force where he faithfully served his country for seven years. Jim was united in marriage to Janice Schultz on April 2, 1966. Prior to his retirement in 2002, he worked as an electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration. Jim was an outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, and fishing. He loved spending time at his trailer in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin where he made lasting friendships. Jim was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, and his church family at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf.
Those left to honor his memory are his children, John (Bill Van Beene) Carpa of Jewett City, Connecticut, Pam (Bobby Sturms) VanCamp of Bettendorf, Laura (Keith) May of Marion, Iowa, and Katie (Doug Butts) Hippler of Davenport; five grandchildren, Brandon VanCamp, Cassidy Barker, Kaitlynne Barker, Rachel Hippler, and Payton Hippler; sister, Fran Harms of Port Huron, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice in 2020.
