James R. “Jim” Carter, 80, of Davenport, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Buffalo.  Visitation for Jim will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Born on November 22, 1931 in Quincy, IL, Jim was the son of Roy and Lola Kleckner Carter. Jim served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict.

Jim installed acoustical ceilings for 50 years. He was a member of the Local 4 Carpenters Union and a 34 year member of the Elks club. Jim loved watching NASCAR; was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed deer and duck hunting.

Survivors include his special friend, Grace Coonts of Davenport and her family, who all loved him very much; two nieces and one nephew; and his special friend, Brother John.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margie Miller; and one brother, Guy Carter.
