James Joseph “Jim” Casel, 75, of Eldridge, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 th at the church and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or Eldridge Fire and Rescue. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on April 23, 1938 in Maquoketa, Iowa, Jim was the son of Walter and Margaret (Wallace) Casel. On June 29, 1963 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, he married Susan Kreiter.
Following his graduation from Davenport High School, Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1959, two of those years in Paris, France. Jim retired from Alcoa in 1997 after 38 years of service, most of those in the foil mill. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and the United Steelworkers Union 105 in Bettendorf. Jim and Sue were members of a couples card club for almost 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golf and mowing the lawn. Jim cherished his time spent with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play sports.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Susan Casel of Eldridge; four sons and their wives, Gregory and Kendra Casel of DeWitt, Todd and Virginia Casel of East Moline, Christopher and Michelle Casel of Davenport and Matthew and Leslie Casel of Manchester, MO; his mother, Margaret Casel of Long Grove; nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucas, Ethan, Andrew, Emma, Jake, Kari, Joseph and Allison.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Robert and a sister in infancy.
