James F. Childers, 67, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 26, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home and an hour before services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born in Cobden, Illinois on June 12, 1944, the son of Ora Frederick & Etta (Angell) Childers. On September 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Taylor in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1987.

Jim retired in December of 2006 after 39 ½ years of faithful service with the Public Works Department of the City of Bettendorf.

He loved motorsports of all kinds and was the type of person who loved visiting with people. Jim could truly say he never met a stranger.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Timothy Childers of Bettendorf; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Minor of Branson, Missouri and JoAnne Townsley of Muscatine, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Michael Taylor of Argyle, Iowa; his close & special friend, Barb Horstman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Wright.
