James L. “Cody” Coday, 69, a resident of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. The family suggests casual attire for those attending his services. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Chuck’s Tap, 1700 block of W. 6th Street in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 29, 1950. On January 23, 1998, he was united in marriage to Valerie V. Grapengeter in Davenport.
Cody was employed as a painter with the Painter Union Local 676, retiring after over 20 years of service. He loved spending time with his grandbabies, playing golf, going fishing and the casinos.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Valerie; his daughter. Christy (Josh) Monroe of Davenport; his sons, Jimmy (Mindy) Pecoraro of Davenport, Travis (Tenaya) Guinn in Oklahoma, Sean Pecoraro of Davenport and Adam (Stephanie) Grapengeter of Blufton, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Linda Richer in Minnesota and Tammy Pike of Milan, Illinois; his brothers, Chuck Horton of Sandoval, Illinois, Mike Horton in North Carolina and Brian Horton of Milan, Illinois; and his special friends, Rick Vanderham and Tim Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vera Horton; and his step-son, Thad Grapengeter.
