James Farmer

James A. “Jim”  Farmer, 78, a resident of LeClaire, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street in Davenport.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Riverview Roadhouse in LeClaire. Private burial will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jim was born May 2, 1939 in Maybeury, West Virginia, the son of Curtis and Mildred (Light) Farmer. Jim served his country in the United States Marines, stationed on U.S.S. Bennington as a helicopter crew chief for four years, and was honorably discharged in 1962. On April 27, 1985 he married Mary Fisher.

Jim worked at Oscar Meyer, International Harvester, and retired as a millwright at Alcoa, working from 1980 - 2001. He was a faithful Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, and visiting with his buddies in LeClaire.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory include his wife, Mary; daughter, Megan Cox of Davenport; son, Curtis Farmer of Davenport; grandchildren, Branden, Leanna, Steven, and Patrick Kellenberger, and Dewey Farmer, sixteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph (Marion) Farmer, of Gastonia, North Carolina, John (Linda) Farmer, of Milan, and Lester (Linda) Farmer, of Davenport; sisters, Ruth (Skip) Collmar of Cramerton, North Carolina, Pam Christenson of Bettendorf; step sister, Shirley Van Meter of Davenport;  and cousins, Don (Kim) Farmer of Glenwood, Missouri, and Beverly Diltz of Ottumwa, Iowa.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter; Pamela Jean Farmer, parents; uncles, John, and Rondy; and his brother, Fred Heaton.
