James Kuhne

August 30, 1946 — July 13, 2014

James F. Kuhne, 67, of Bettendorf, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in Jerseyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on August 30, 1946 in Danville, IL, Jim was the son of Frederick and Lyola (Johnson) Kuhne. On August 31, 1968 in Kirkwood, MO, he married Susan Cole.

Jim Graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a degree in Business Administration. He began his career in commercial casualty claims with Aetna Casualty and Surety in St. Louis. He later transferred to Hartford, CT and became a specialist in mass tort and environmental claims. In 1994 he had the opportunity to join Bituminous Insurance Company in Rock Island, IL, eventually becoming Vice President of Claims.

Jim enjoyed time spent at his lake home in Litchfield, IL, following the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and the Tigers, both MU and LSU. He thrived during the years he was able to volunteer in youth sports as coach, umpire and administrator. He remained faithful to his values of family, faith and honoring his dreams as well as his principles.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Susan; daughter, Liz Kuhne of Salem, MA; sons, Jim (Sue) Kuhne, Jr. of Long Beach, CA, Jeff (Jamie) Kuhne of Worthington, OH and Jason Kuhne of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Jack, Ainsley, Eva and Nora; brother, Tom (Tara) Kuhne of Glen Carbon, IL; brothers-in-law, Perry Cole of Highlands Ranch, CO and Clark (Eileen) Cole of Clayton, MO and Jerseyville, IL; many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, an uncle and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law and an infant son, Jonathan.
