James E. Logan, 79, of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the Quad Cities or to Gilda’s Club.
James was born May 7, 1934, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Eugene J. and Leone D. (Steffenson) Logan. On June 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carolyn S. Rector in Cedar Falls, Iowa. James served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1960. He received his Master’s Degree from Northeast Missouri State University (now known as Truman State University) in Guidance and Counseling. James worked as a Science and Driver’s Ed teacher, along with coaching tennis, wrestling and football in the North Scott Community School District for 35 years. He was also a member of the National Education Association.
James enjoyed playing golf and tennis with his friends. In his free time, he enjoyed watching and cheering for his grandchildren at their sporting events. James generously volunteered his time to many committees at the Fountains.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons James W. (Sally) Logan, of Cordova, Tennessee and Michael E. (Angela) Logan, of Davenport; and his two grandchildren Ryan and Lauren Logan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Logan and his parents.
