James W. Mienke, 84, a resident of Bettendorf, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme St. in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jim was born on January 11, 1933 in Fenton, Iowa, the son of George and Lucile (Brennan) Mienke. After graduating high school, he married the love of his life, LaVonne Schealler.
Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean War. Jim worked as a barber for 50 years; opening shops in DeWitt and Bettendorf with his wife, LaVonne. Together, they owned Mr. Hair in Bettendorf and retired in 2008.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, LaVonne; children, David (Karyl) Mienke of Hudson, Wisconsin, Melissa (Ray) Broccardo of Springfield, Illinois and Luanne (Troy) Kinyon of Bettendorf; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Emily Anderson of San Diego, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Donald and Frank.
